So, I've been a regular journal writer since I was about 8 years old. The entries were spotty at first, but as I got older and writing became less of a chore I wrote more and more. I have several hardbound journals. I always find it almost magical to read through them ... even now ... first to remind me what I did, and then what I hoped to be.
For many years now I've typed my journal on the computer. I've lost several years. I have several volumes too.
So, now I'm trying to print those computer-journals into hard-bound journals so I don't lose any more of them. I'm also typing in those hard-bound journals...so I have a digital backup. Major project either way. But it's a project I relish and enjoy working on.
Lately I've been typing in my journal from when I was in college. I found this nugget of "wisdom" written when I was a 19 year old college student:
"Have fun reading this. Just remember I’ve had hard times too – everyone does – but don’t give up. Keep plugging away. Things hopefully get better. Remember – whoever you are – I love you and so does your Heavenly Father. Always remember you’re a child of God and that will help you to keep going – it has me, that’s for sure. And, oh, by the way, write in your journal – it sure makes you feel better to get things out of head and heart and on paper so you can go back and read it and then analyze it to see how you can do better next time. It helps make you a stronger person who’s trying to overcome weaknesses."
I love what I have learned from myself ... from my journals. There are nuggets all through the entries.
Besides, they're better reading than any other novel some days.

I love your nugget of wisdom, thanks for sharing. Making a digital copy of my journals is on my to do list. Maybe with my schedule change at work I'll feel like working on some of my projects after work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel! I think my inspiration for that came from dad.
ReplyDeleteI have thought about doing it too, but not now, I don't have the time. I still write every day though. Thanks for writing on your blog and sharing it.
