I don't like my kids in school for a LOT of reasons.
I sort of understand how so many Mom's get excited about school. Gee, kids gone for a good chunk of the day, Mom's schedule rather than Kid's schedule, etc. Hmm. Their kids must do fine in school. Mine don't.
I LIKE the kids at home. That means I don't have to deal with other people. We don't have to deal with their rules. We can live with ours.
It's especially hard to go back to school with a disabled person. It wasn't even an hour into the first day of the year when I got a distressed phone call "MOM! This isn't going to work! I hate it here. They've changed ALL the rules! Everyone's GONE!"
"Now now Justin, we'll get through this, I promise."
Why is all the people he knew and felt safe with retired or moved to a different school? These people left during the summer, which means that my adult child, who needs advance notice of changes in order to get through it, is big-time stressed.
I also hate having to explain to a TON of NEW people. "This is my son; he has an IEP; that means "individualized." No, he doesn't have to follow the crowd; and No, he doesn't have to do it the way everyone else has always done it.
You've never had a Justin before, have you?
Welcome to "Individualized Education Plan." We get to make this work.
Yes, I like the routine, but it's a pain worrying about how things are going when you already know that they are NOT going well.
I'm looking forward to Labor Day.
