You know, I remember in high school saying I wanted to marry someone from outside the state of Utah and move far away. I remember saying I'd NEVER marry someone from Utah, NEVER someone from Orem, and most specifically NEVER someone from Mountain View High school (my High school). Ick. the guys there weren't what I wanted.
A funny feeling came over me whenever I said this.
Well, a few years out of high school, and after 3 years at BYU I met a guy at a singles ward at UVSC (now UVU = Utah Valley University). He convinced me that UVSC wasn't a bad school and he wasn't that bad of a guy. Oh, and guess where he went to High school? You're right: Mountain View High school from Orem Utah. He graduated a year before I did, and he actually had been locker partners his senior year with a friend of mine. So, I'm sure we crossed paths, but I certainly hadn't remembered him. I found him after his mission, and when he was nearly finished with his first degree at UVSC. (he went back later for a 4 year degree.)
I remember laughing at his senior picture though. I remember showing it to my sister and saying "Look, this guy here is losing his hair!" Oh, by the way, he looks MUCH better now that the hair is gone.
Well, July 10, 1987 I married the guy from Mountain View. This summer will be 22 years.
So, now 22 years, three kids, 1 apartment & 2 houses later...I'm still saying phrases that have the word NEVER in it.
Such as "Jessica will NEVER set foot in Lehi Junior High."
Well, today I registered Jessica for 9th grade Lehi Junior high...and I actually feel good about it.
I wouldn't have considered it had we not been at home the last few months.
In fact, I actually feel excited for her and all the possibilities with this school, and then Lehi High school after that.
We walked around the school today after working with the counselor on her class schedule. Jessica kept saying "It's SO big." Once we got home Justin just said "Ya, but the high school is bigger."
We found the lunch room, the restrooms, and the guidance center, the gym, the seminary building...and so that pretty much covers it. The other classrooms might change teachers anyway.
So, be careful about the word "Never." It has a funny way of coming back at you.
