I'll admit we don't take a lot of formal vacations. But this year since my daughter was headed to Southern California for the Heritage Music Festival I decided to make a family vacation out of it. Her school choir director invited her to still go with the group, even though we're not attending the school.
Here was our general itinerary:
- Anaheim
- St. George
Ok, you want more info? Here it is:
CALIFORNIA
Heritage Festival
We spent Friday afternoon at the music festival. DH and I sat in the auditorium for several hours and listened to many performances. It didn't take me long to realize that after a group performed, most of the audience disappeared. It was not a concert by any means. There were adjudicators there to critique the performance group. I was impressed by the professional people who were there to do the adjudications.
For those who don't know (as I didn't prior to the trip) an adjudicator is basically a judge who critiqued the performance. They provided notes helpful to the choir director, etc, etc.
Our combined choir and the women's ensemble got a gold/1st place in the Junior High Division. I was VERY impressed! They should be pleased.
La Brea Tar Pits
Friday morning we went to the La Brea Tar Pits & Page Museum in Hancock Park in Los Angeles.
Disneyland/California Adventure
Saturday was DISNEYLAND. We bought a one day park hopper pass and went from 8:30 am to midnight. LONG, long, LONG day!
These are some of the rides we enjoyed: Indiana Jones, It's a Small World, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Star Tours, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Haunted Mansion, Honey I shrunk the Audience, Pirates of the Caribbean, Soarin' Over California, Monsters, Inc: Mike & Sulley to the Rescue, Muppet Vision 3D, It's Tough to be a Bug
So many things to do, so little time. We had fun though.
San Diego Wild Animal Park
Sunday we went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the beach at Laguna Beach.
ST GEORGE, UT
Monday we drove to St. George, UT for the next leg of our journey.
Snow Canyon
We enjoyed a sunset in Snow Canyon. I was also impressed with the QUIET -- such a stark difference from Southern California!
Zion National Park
Tuesday we went to Zion National Park.
Anasazi Trail
Then late Tuesday we wandered around looking for Anasazi Writings on the rock walls in the Santa Clara River Preserve. We were on foot, but I thought this biking website had good pictures and information.
Dinosaurs
While in the St. George area we also went to the Johnson Farm to look at the dinosaur museum. It was certainly worth the time and money.
We arrived home tired on Wednesday about noon. I had time to do the laundry, catch up on the mail, but still haven't looked at the newspapers. I guess they'll have to be forgotten, which isn't a bad thing. Sometimes it's good to take a news/media vacation too.
